The Finals of the Eighteenth Annual Heat Strokes Drum Contest was held on Tuesday night June 17th & for the 10th strait year at the McHenry County College in Crystal Lake Illinois. As the contest has for 18 years, it offered Beginner & Advanced classes in drum set & a open snare drum contest. The curiosity was high with many wondering as always how the contest was run & even more how the contest would turn out. This year the contest was a calm 80 degrees & unlike a few years ago when we had a power shortage in a rain storm and one of the contestants was preforming and did not stop, just like you should when playing with a band and or make a mistake. This year Tyler Ommen won, of Chicago, Illinois and the only drummer to have won three times. 2011, 2012 and 2014. What a great performance and what a bright future he has. Our youngest drummer to preform ever was 5 yr. old Logan McCabe. Doing a exhibition on a snare drum & standing on a safe of about 8 in" high, as he wasn't tall enough yet for a snare stand. ( got to love it ) The crowd absolutely loved him and set the night off with people wondering how this kid did it, and made them take note, if he can, we can. Job well done Logan. The top ten in the advanced class was: not in order via scores on other part of this web site. Tyler Ommen, Jimmy Pinkl, last years winner.
